A Silent Protest

We will be blacking out our website tomorrow (January 18) in protest of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) alongside Reddit, Wikipedia, and many, many other websites. Such legislation would make what we do absolutely impossible and is not the appropriate answer to dealing with piracy. If you live in the United States, be sure to contact your Senators and Representatives to let them know you do not support such inefficient and draconian legislation. If this is the first you’ve heard about it, learn more here. The Internet was meant to be free and that is how it shall remain.

Premature Release

During my usual waste-my-entire-Sunday-browsing-the-Internet, I realized that Machinima had released the third episode of Outpost: Isil a week and a half early (and without telling us!). This marks the first time in Treeskunk history that a machinima has been released ahead of schedule (go us!). Obviously we’d never keep our dedicated fans from any of our releases, so we’ve already posted it to our Facebook and YouTube channels. The usual download links will be up later this week. Enjoy!

We’re firing on all cylinders as we just uploaded the second episode of the second season of Outpost: Isil to Machinima. The Kid gets to know the base and brings up a touchy subject with Rico while Freng has to deal with his troops as the mysteriously alive Voldack takes command of the situation in Valhalla Valley and begins his hunt for the traitor, Halmat. Enjoy the latest episode and expect the next one to come out December 9th with a new Treeskunk short around the same time.

If you’ve been with us for some time then you’ll remember that we used to have our videos released in a podcast format via the iTunes Podcast Directory. At some point over the past year or two, we transitioned to using Feedburner for managing the feed and subsequently broke the iTunes listing. After considerable effort with the nonexistent iTunes support staff, we’re finally back in the official podcast directory within the iTunes Store. 10 Years

Today marks the 10th anniversary of the game that started it all, Halo: Combat Evolved. The game that almost single-handily allowed machinima to evolve into a recognized production medium (Machinima’s YouTube account is one of the most viewed of all time). Halo was a game of firsts, but nobody would have guessed the impact it would have outside of the game itself. Without Halo, we certainly would not exist. Everyone at Treeskunk came together because of this game and somehow we’re still here. So be sure to take the time today to thank Bungie for all they’ve done for this community. Long live the Seventh Column!!

Because the second season of Outpost: Isil is going to get a little bumpy. That’s right folks, we’re happy to release the first episode of Season Two for your viewing pleasure. As we return to Valhalla Valley a few months after the Covenant invasion, the Humans find themselves in an increasingly desperate situation. Breaking Computers

Well, as tends to happen with Paul, we had a computer issue over the last 2 weeks and are again working on season 2. Though we hoped to release Episode 1 this month it won’t make it out till November. Because you have all been waiting patiently we will release it sooner rather then later but with an extended release schedule. In short, expect Episode 1 by November 11th and Episode 2 by November 25th and so on. Stay with us on this, there is a good reason its taking so long to make these and we hope you will enjoy them.

Best Comedy for Voices, Best Comedy Series for Crashed and Best Voice Actor with Chris Gravitt. If you take a gander at our little viewing count page, you’ll notice that we just passed our two millionth tracked view of our videos (downloads from our website and views on YouTube). That represents an estimated 25 years of time spent watching our machinima (which is pretty mind-blowing) and over 5TB of data transferred from our little site. If you’re fans of our Facebook Page, then you saw the announcement yesterday from Paul Shelley that we’re already about halfway done with the second season of Outpost: Isil and will have new content coming by the end of August. Everyone here at Treeskunk Productions appreciates your support and viewing of our machinima (despite our love affair with unexplained delays) and we hope to continue entertaining y’all into the future.

Voices Redux

Aside from its looks, everything is pretty much exactly the same as the old version (although that’s no excuse not to watch it!). Welcome to the New Treeskunk!

As you can clearly see, the Treeskunk website has gotten a much-needed makeover to bring it up to date with the latest website design standards and styles. The site is still based on the excellent WordPress publication platform and the new theme was adapted from a free theme called Arras that we hope will improve the user experience.

The new frontpage design focuses on presenting the user with several different categories of content beyond that of the simple “ten most recent posts” the old site utilized. The “Featured Post” slider at the top of the page contains the four most recent posts made on the website, regardless of their category. Simply clicking anywhere on the image will take you to the article while the arrows on the left and right can be used to scroll through the individual articles.

Immediately beneath the Featured Posts are our three most recent machinima releases and our six most recent update posts. The “Machinima” releases will only include new official Treeskunk releases and not alternative or secondary releases (such as on Machinima.com). This will be the place to look for the latest Side Note, Crashed, and Outpost: Isil episodes. The “Updates” section contains any general posts concerning Treeskunk, followup posts for our machinima releases, and a variety of other content.

The sidebar remains predominately the same and contains links to our external video sources (YouTube and Vimeo) as well as our podcast feeds (Feedburner and iTunes). The five most recent posts are also listed as an alternative to the featured post slider located only on the main page. The sidebar also contains a comprehensive list of all the different post categories on the website and can be utilized to quickly navigate through the different content of the website.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, the organization of the machinima pages has been moved entirely to the main horizontal navbar. The drop-down menu can be used to navigate to the comprehensive machinima page, specific machinima series pages, or even individual episodes of a series. The content of the individual machinima pages remains the same, with links to our own hosted videos (SD and HD) and a variety of online streaming services.

We hope you like the new website design and that it helps to improve your Treeskunk viewing experience. We know the majority of our views are now exclusive to YouTube, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a nice website! Please don’t hesitate to offer suggestions or notify us of any problems you may encounter with the website (via comments below or the Contacts tab). Once again, thanks for supporting us! We appreciate y’all (except maybe Paul)! Keep an eye out for new releases soon!
